I was first made aware of Mt Doubt via by Twitter a few months ago, with the promotion of new album ‘In Awe Of Nothing’ from numerous accounts, and via producer Mark Morrow, who I have worked with previously on a number of occasions. This was soon followed by news that the act would be performing on the T Break Stage at Scotland’s very own T in the Park. So I decided I’d find out what the hype was about. And boy, was it worth it.
Mt Doubt is the musical brainchild of Edinburgh artist Leo Bargery, created in 2015. Debut album ‘My Past Is A Quiet Beast’ received praise and airplay across the UK and as far afield as the United States. Vic Galloway highlighted Mt Doubt as part of his list of 25 musicians to watch in 2016, and it can definitely be argued that he was spot on.
New release ‘In Awe Of Nothing’ is a very atmospheric record, with a number of instruments featuring at various points on different tracks. At points there is a strong feel of The Courteeners that appears (such as the verses of ‘Thirst’), by no means a bad thing at all however. The combination of male and female harmonies throughout blends excellently and helps to make the album a relaxing listen. Personal highlights are single ‘Afterglow’ and ‘Soak’ with its slow rock groove.
With such high praise placed upon Mt Doubt, and past sets on stages such as the earlier mentioned T Break Stage, you can’t help but feel that the future looks bright for this project
